Physionotrace portrait of a gentleman, in State uniform wearing the Grand Cross of the Order of the Iron Crown and a 4th type Officers Grade Legion of Honour circa 1811-15. 70mm Physionotrace. This gentleman is probably a government official from the Kingdom of Italy as he is wearing the Order of the Iron Crown before the Legion of Honour. If he was in the service of France the Legion of Honour would take precedence. Physionotrace, was invented by Gilles-Louis Chrétien in 1784 and is similar to a silhouette, in that the physionotrace always shows a profile portrait. The Physionotrace portrait however shows every detail of the sitter, including his or her clothing.
