Six dinner plates

Darte Aine, Paris

c. 1805-10

With stylised feather design on a burnt orange ground, three blue medallions with roman style sword set inside, with central gilt medallion and borders.

The Darte firm was the largest producer of porcelain in Paris, employing 150 artisans. In 1803 two of the three Darte brothers left the firm to found their own, which they registered as 'Darte Freres', while Joseph Darte, the eldest of the tree, continued to operate under the name 'Darte Aine' (that is, 'Darte Senior') The Darte factories  were amongst the top producers of porcelain throughout the time of the Empire and were favoured by members of Napoleon's family and the Imperial court.
