Dragons of the Imperial Guard

A hand coloured engraving of the uniform of the dragons de la Garde impériale also know as the Dragons de l’Impératrice in honour of their patron the Empress Josephine. The unit was formed by Imperial Decree on the 15 April 1806 and by 1807 consisted of 1269 men, all 1.73m or taller.

After the death of the Empress Josephine on May 29th 1814, and until the death of the last member of the unit, all surviving member would meet at Malmaison on the anniversary of the passing of their much loved patron.
