Napoleon of horse back

1809 (After)

Pen and ink on card

18 x 27cm

This drawing dated and marked 'repris' 2 March 1809 shows Napoleon on horse with a group of officers being presented to the on looking crowd. The location is  not known but if it was drawn from life Napoleon was in Paris on the 2 March 1809. The artist is also unknown but it is very similar in style to that of Carle Vernet (1758-1836) who is known to have painted many images of Napoleon. Perhaps his most famous are the ones in the Marmottan museum in Paris showing Napoleon at the chateau of Versailles.
