Gold medallion struck for marriage of Napoleon and Marie Louise - 1810
Or médaille frappée pour le mariage de Napoléon et de Marie-Louise - 1810
Gold medallion struck for marriage of Napoleon and Marie Louise
1810
14mm
Gold
Bramsen 956
Napoleon married Marie Louise by proxy in Vienna on 11 March 1810. Dennon was commanded to produce four medals in various sizes, in copper, silver and gold, for the Paris marriage of Napoleon and Marie Louise. They were produced in the same numbers as had been requested for those of the coronation six years earlier.
The total of medallions struck in gold were:
40mm - 100
32mm - 200
27mm - 200
14mm - 12,500
At the coronation in 1804 6,000 of the 14mm gold medallions were given to members of the Imperial Guard and it is assumed that this medallion was also given to the guard. The rest were thrown to the crowds by the heralds-at-arms.

Below is the silver version.
